i have a diamond supra express 56e ie a slightly older external version of what you've got. mine came with a cd/floppy (cant remember which) which had a help file containing all the commands to do stuff to the modem.
but to be honest, why do u want to disable the k56 ?

cos wireplay dont support it and my ping is very big so i presume disabling it can only help.
Any way i got innit string from diamond, it is:
AT+MS=V34,,,,33600
apparently, ive yet to test it
+MS=11,0 works for my unbranded modem, but make sure u put it in modem dun settings, not the modem bit of wp client, as that doesn't work.
only problem with that is everytime u use modem u have disabled flex, so u have to take it out if u want to connect to net using flex http://www.wireplay.co.uk/ubb/frown.gif
bit of a pain but...
