This lag thing is getting beyond a joke. The weapons stay dm server completely mucke up this afternoon, EVERYONE went to a ping of minimum 1900 (no I haven't put too many noughts and its not an exaturation)

That's obviously a freak event but everyone is complaining about lag on the servers. I have got a X2/V.90 modem (Its got 2MB of Flash ROM so has both on it at the same time

I asked for the trial patch from Uprising which he has now sent http://www.wireplay.co.uk/ubb/smile.gif the problem is, it does not work!! I'm sure i signed up for a X2 or V.90 trial. As wp has X2 modems as standard (i think) then it must have been a V.90 trial. I got pings of 150 - 190 which were fairly stable.

Uprising sent me the files: K56_Tel.reg and standard_tel.reg. Now this indicates to me this is the K56 Flex trial not the V.90, I tried it all the same and it didn't work. I got the login username/password which i entered as i had done in the V.90 trial. It tries to connect but says could not connect try again in 10 mins. I've tried it lots of times. I assume i have either been sent the wrong file or it was a fluke i managed to connect before.

I hope I'm not going to sound like I'm trying to do ur job but have u tried format c: (and all the other letters - u get the idea) on all ur server hard drives and starting from scratch, u never know it may sort the problem out (its a MAJOR job i know) but if it doesn't work then there must be something wrong with the hardware.

I hope I haven't annoyed any1 from wp because the last sentence is probably complete rubbish - but at least im not JUST slagging wp off http://www.wireplay.co.uk/ubb/smile.gif

must be getting post happy!
Its an arms race, Sweetie, which is why everyone wants the lowest lag. I posted elsewhere far too much about lag so I will give it a rest here.
Sounds like several things have happened at once here. The server problem I guess was a one-off, all we can do here in Wireplay is monitor the servers as best we can (the software isnt network-hardened like that on our own servers), so sorry but I hope we fixed it up quick.
The software problems you report look like something different. We have been having problems with dll's, some have started to ship (mfc42.dll and MSVCRT.dll) which show up incompatibilities with Wireplay. I had a nice note from MS (yes, it can happen!) which says they have fixed a backward compatibility problem with mfc42. Also we are patching Wireplay so it shouldnt be affected anyway (no telling what .dll's are out there!). Call our helpdesk if you have been installing new software and this is likely to have overwritten the dll's which were working with Wireplay.
Also theres some confusion over diallers. We have been running a trial of k56 modems which was supposed to cover us while v.90 got sorted so that it worked with all modems. This hasnt happened yet. Our modems are *2 native which would be peachy except that the price dropped like a stone for k56 because of turmoil in the modem industry. You should b fine with your *2 modem but make sure you have the latest Wireplay software (assuming you use this?)
If you dial direct then dont assume the Wireplay dialler contains the correct number because it doesn't. I have said before on this board why we dont support direct dial. If you want to do this then its up to you and of course you will know what to do...

SORRY, I was in a bad mood cos i kept on getting really bad lag. I've taken ur advice and downloaded the latest wp software (I didn't think it's make much difference) but i get pings of around 170-180 and its pretty stable and there's very little of the jack sign. Sorry again
