I thought the 3000 ran at something like 160 anyway, and the 2000 ran at 140? may be wrong tho' download the V3 overclocker and move the slider up in 5s and see when it starts to freeze...I believe there is a something in the overclocking proggy that shows how to get it back to factory defaults if it doen't like it.

I'm pretty sure it's

2000=143MHz (well mine was) 3000=166MHz and 3500=183MHz (seems to be the maximum stable speed for a v3 chip.

What I did to achive 183MHz:

1) Attach a 486 fan the the supplied heatsink
2) Paste a 486 heatsink and fan combo to the connector on the other side.

It now runs cooler than it did when it was at 143MHz.

oh yeah nearly forgot.

I could get my V3 3k up to 175 (with a 486 fan screwed to the heatsink) before I started getting screen corruption, but the performance gains @ 800x600 weren't worth the hassle IMO.

Apparently there are two different brands of memory on the V3s, one overclocks better than the other.

It isn't really worth the hassle of OC'ing the V3, as the gains are too small (a few FPS) for the problems it creates.

I found that more FPS was gained by upping the FSB a little, as that increases the CPU, memory, video and hard drive performance. The only trouble then is if your hardware can take it, only 1 way to find out :-)

Upping the FSB would increse FPS if your CPU/Memory was the bottleneck but it wasn't in my case, it was the v3.

O/C'ing the voodoo has taken my 1600x1200 fps from 26 to 41, with no side effects.

The Voodoo3 runs very hot as standard (about 70-75C), the temp rises quickly when you start to OC it.

When I had my V3 3000, I used one of the exhaust coolers in the slot directly below the V3, this brought the system temp down by 8C. I could also clock it at 180 with no problems, but the extra 4FPS wasn't worth the extra heat. That's why it is better to OC the FSB, IF your components can take it.
