Is MY ATI RAGE MAXX 64MB card underperforming?!

P2 333
128sdram 66mhz
with a ATI RAGE MAXX 64mb card

I have been benchmarking quake 3 with my new card and my results were utter poo...

All at VERY high quality settings at 1024x768

Timedemo 1
Demo 1 29.5fps
Demo 2 30.1fps

Now my friend who has a

AMD-K6 2 450
256sdram 100mhz
Voodoo 3 3000

Gets at the same setting..

Timedemo 1
Demo 1 27.7fps
Demo 2 29.3fps

Now is my card underperforming or is it because of my dud processor?!
Also I am going to upgrade to a AMD 750 in 2 months time and thinking will it increase my frame rate dramatically?! Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I've got to admit that I have no experience with this card but we'll go through a couple of obvious things.

First off, make sure you have got the very latest drivers for your card. You should find them on www.atitech.com (http://www.atitech.com) .

Also make sure you are not running any memory hogging apps in the background such as findfast or anything like that.

However, in all honestly the problem is most likely your processor. Quake 3 is a very processor and memory intensive game. 66MHz memory just doesn't give enough bandwidth any more and a 333MHz proccy doesn't help an awful lot either.

Also, from what I hear the Rage Fury Maxx 32bit colour performance is absolutely dire ATM so hold off using it until they sort out their drivers.

I have installed the new drivers unfortunately. I made a mistake I have actually got 100mhz Sdram not 66mhz. But I guess Athlon 750 here I come!!!!

Hi True Fan all i can say is hurry up and get ur Athlon CPU m8
i just got Athlon 650 with a new ASUS K7M M/B
128mb Ram and i just bought a Creative Geforce Annihilator Pro 32DDR
My 3DMarks at 1024x768 at 32 res Z24
was an astounding 6719 marks
and my Qii frame rate at 1024x768 was
112.6 fps :-)
and at 800x600 it was 167.3 fps
so that gives u an idea what to go for m8 im well pleased with this setup
