whilst playing UnrealT on my pc with a V2 was fine I now have a GeForce and every time it opens it says PRECACHING, now wtf is that, i can see that you can turn it off in direct3d mode only, but i run in OpenGL!! also since using the GeForce everytime I open a new map it is VERY gurky to begin with but settles down after about 2-3mins. that never happened with my v2! Can i increase the ammount of memory UT uses, lets say to 150mb.

Thanks
Dave

Pre-caching is when it loads the textures for the level into the graphics cards memory
(I think)

What I AM sure about is that the reason it didn't happen with the V2 is that u were running glide with it and the doesn't precache at all

but I don't think increasing ur memory will stop it - I've seen 256 adn 512 MB machines that still do it

and it's always worth taking a look at the GeforceFAQ (http://www.tweak3d.net/faq/) which some tips on sorting out UT

Deathwish m8, don't worry about OpenGL, it's an experimental version only and it has never worked very well ever since the original Unreal was released. Here is what to do:- You can turn precaching off, but I don't know how to, but I know you can, however if you open up your properties for your video card you will find something in the advanced settings menu for OPENGL which reads something like this...

Allow video memory to use dual planes extension...

Tick the box (i think it says that, I'm not quite sure), and that should smoothen out your OpenGL, it practically makes the two sets of memory you have (video and your 128mb) the same thing so there's no go between. Result=smooth OpenGL. It will go jerky for the first couple of seconds when it sorts itself out but after that it should be fine. I'm sorry I couldn't be of any more assistance to you.

Lo All

Also, under the advanced options, theres
a setting for Engine. You'll see a
setting for cachesizemegs=4 by default.

I have it up to 128, no precaching again

There is a problem with GeForce, TNT and TNT2 cards with precaching and large file swapping in UT but it only affects them if there is less than 128 Meg of RAM available.

You say you have 128 so this might not be of any use to you but it's something to consider.
