The Reverend (3dfx nut at voodooextreme) said the numbers for the voodoo5 were way too high, probably because it seems they used a 16-bit desk top rather than a 32-bit desktop resulting in faster speeds but lower quality. To quote:

"3) Regarding the V5 5500 numbers in the Squad's article - I am STILL unable to come within 10fps of the Squad's V5 5500 numbers in all benchmarks (i.e. "Fastest", "Normal" and "High Quality"). The Squad's V5 5500 numbers are still *at least* 10fps (more than 10fps in some benchmarks, in fact) faster than mine, with me using the same CPU speed as their article's (i.e. 800MHz CuMine)"

Reverend certainly knows his apples and I'd be far more inclined to believe him than the squab. He's one of the least biased reviewers around.
