How much do Nvidia pay you again?

If you are thinking of buying a much slower card for the benefits of superior FSAA then I'd think again if I were you. I've always said running at higher resolution is much better than running at lower resolution with FSAA on and now I have my Geforce 2 I can confirm this. Read this article before you read any further http://www.gamebasement.com/pages/home.asp?nav=articles&id=4

Even 800x600 32-bit with FSAA on looks inferior to going just one resolution higher to 1024x768. Now this is 2xFSAA that I'm talking about which looks better on the geforce than the voodoo according to several sites including Thresh's firing squad.

4xFSAA as the reverend said does look good and meant to look even better on the voodoo5 5500. But I'd advise you to take a look at the frame rates quoted for the voodoo with 4xFSAA on and decide if you can live with going that slowly. I know I couldn't. If FSAA is dear to your heart I would wait for the voodoo5 6000 which will be able to do FSAA properly.

And to round off with T&L, what a feature. I now have Soldier of Fortune cranking out astounding frame rates with great lighting. The voodoo will be very slow on games like this one. Check this article out if unconvinced http://trenches.igg.net/projects/columns/john.shtml

And Messiah runs like an absolute dream at 1280x1024 32-bit with T&L. Amazing detail with the high polygon count the T&L engine allows for in this game. You might like to check out this article http://www.3dgpu.com/games/sacrifice.cfm for how T&L will influence typical games coming this xmas.

All in all you'd be daft to buy a high end card other than a Geforce 2 given its much higher frame rates and all round ability.

Heh, the only things I've heard about the GF2 are 1) it's a fast card and 2) it's severely limited by memory bandwidth, so can't get anywhere near the fill-rate it should be capable of. http://forums.gameplay.com/ubb/stare.gif

Of course, that's just from reading far too many benchmarking results - in my opinion it depends exactly what you're using the card for, FPS games, racing games, etc etc http://forums.gameplay.com/ubb/smokin.gif

not to mention all the compatability probs the GeForce's have...

Well, yeah - my GeForce had (and still does have OpenGL Lockups under Windows 2000 with my Athlon) problems, those were apparently chipset problems with the Irongate on the earlier motherboards.

Hopefully, with this Abit KA7 mobo, and the fact the GF2 requires a lot less power to run (I think) - I should be able to get down to some serious gaming without wondering when it was going to lock up http://forums.gameplay.com/ubb/smokin.gif

Even if I could run it at a good rate I wouldn't bother, you must be that person that stands around looking at walls in Q3 while every one kills you :D.

Faking. Errrrrm. I just don't know what to say. I really, honestly, feel sorry for you dood :( I hope something (other than a piece of computer hardware) brings some joy into your life soon.

All the best.
