View Full Version : Geforce 2 Polygon Problems!
I have a P2 400 with 128 RAM and with my old graphics card (Diamond Viper V770 TNT2) on Benchmark 2000 I got 1385 marks. I noted down the results and for KTriangles/s I got scores of:
High Polygon count (1 light) - 1049
High Polygon Count (4 lights)- 711
High Polyon Count (8 lights) - 510
All pretty normal I expect. But when I tried my new shiny Geforce 2 with the same tests I got scores of 440, 440 and 439! worse than my previous card! Everything else has improved and this is the only worse thing. I know my processor isnt the best in the world but surely it shouldn't be worse than before? The default benchmark with the new card is 1621 and the performance is better with software T+L. Im pretty certain it is a driver problem but I downloaded the Detanator 2 drivers and it hasnt improved. Any answers would be GREATLY appreciated. :D
My other computer, a P3 450 with a 3Dfx Banshee is getting much better results for KTriangles/s on benchmark 2000. In fact over four times better so what do you reckon?
Should I send the card back?
Is it drivers?
any suggestions
Try re-installing direct x7.0. Alternatively your scores are so low you may not have installed the USB supplement for win95 if that's what you are running. Or if its an AMD you are running with check that you have your AGP miniport drivers installed. Last thing to check is that your AGP slot is enabled in your video bios and that the AGP aperture size is set to at least half your ram.
Thanks Faking but reinstalling DirectX hasn't cured the problem. It's a Pentium 2 400 and I'm running Windows 98 so I'm baffled. Iv'e tried reinstalling the drivers but still no go. Mabe it's a duff card. I think I'll ask for a replacement tommorrow, sickening cos it looks fantastic in some of the demos but Isle of Morg is just jolt, jolt 4fps jolt!
I was just reading some of the earlier posts regarding probs with Geforce and someone was saying that GTS requires AGP2 slot? On the Prophet GTS2 box, the specs just say "available agp slot".
My mobo is an ECS P6BX-A+ and the manual says it meets "AGP 1.0 standard with support for 1x/2x speed transfers"
So it should be ok, shouldn't it......?
Double now triple posts!!!

Erm it could be that problem because I had AGP 1.0 and that motherboard had a bit of trouble with my GF DDR, have you tried giving a little more power?. However it could just be problems with benchmark 2000 accessing the GF2 drivers properly.
Thanks for that, how do you mean "give a little more power"? The demo for the high polygon count in benchmark 2000 shows the spinning ropy fibre things just chugging round in a slow jolty manner, on my old tnt2 they were whizzing round! likewise on the banshee in my other comp! Do you think it could still be benchmark 2000 not being able to access the GTS drivers?
Well I rang GP and they say they have handed the tech support back to Guillemot cos so many probs but Gullemot say the card is so new they dont know what the answers are yet. They said I might need a new AGP driver for my mobo?, I'm not sure whether to just send it back?
