I have a problem for some reason when I try to test the fps with of my v3 it always get rubbish fps like only 23-25 at a screen res of 640 x 480. I run the crusher.dm2 at timedemo 1 and Vsync off. My spec of my PC is:
AMD-K6 2 450
128mb SDRAM 100mhz
Voodoo 3 3000
SBlive
40x CDrom
Why on earth am i getting such rubbish FPS have I done something wrong? I also tried it on my other PC which is:
P166 MMX
64 EDO ram
6mb Voodoo Rush
Soundblaster 64PCI
16x cdrom
And with that I get 19.6fps which is understandable. NE1 got ne ideas y I'm getting such a rubbish FPS?

Go to www.tweak3d.net (http://www.tweak3d.net) and read the Quake2 and Voodoo tweak pages. That'll sort ya. Also make sure you disable VSYNC in the control panel bit.

Drivers m8 - and also make sure u have that tweeking program....

Make sure your not running heaps of other things on the toolbar @ teh time... - even getright doesn't help http://www.wireplay.co.uk/ubb/frown.gif

Other than that I feel u may have a dodgy card - me m8 gets around 72 FPS in 800x600 http://www.wireplay.co.uk/ubb/smile.gif

Oh how could I be such an idiot http://www.wireplay.co.uk/ubb/frown.gif

MAKE SURE U HAVEN'T CAPPED FRAME RATE http://www.wireplay.co.uk/ubb/smile.gif

I was worried @ only getting 30 fps in Q2 - but I get 72 once I uncapped frame rate http://www.wireplay.co.uk/ubb/smile.gif

Are you sure thats with the crusher demo not the ones in the game. The crusher demo is very demanding on your system and benchmarks will be much lower than demo1 or demo2.

If the frame rate was capped it should have been an exact number ie 30 or 28 etc.

If it is changing, then something is a bit wrong by the sound of it ( that doesn't help u much though ).

How well do other games run?

Hmm, I don't know if it helps but I have never used any kind of tweak program and I keep Vsync on(Why would you need it off, I don't see the point)... I have 2 12Mb Voodoo 2s, 160Mb RAM, 350Mhz PII, plus I have sh*tloads of taskbar stuff like Seti, Crashgard, Gozilla etc.. All I do to fix perforance is to regularly check for new drivers... anyway I can get these FPS on Quake II

Standard Demo: 640 x 480 48.9 FPS
1024 x 768 55.4 FPS (eh?)
Crusher Demo: 640 x 480 27.7 FPS
1024 x 768 27.4 FPS
Quake 1 Demo: 640 x 480 121.1 FPS
1024 x 768 86.7 FPS
But generally I get 60FPS + on most games...

Plus I had a software 56k modem conencted at the time(never use it for games tho)...

Anyway, the point is I think your problem goes beyond simply tweaking settings... If its a PCI card try changing the slot its plugged into (probably a last resort mind you...) but its bound to be some fundamental hardware thing... I doubt the card isn't working because it would probably just work for a while then hang your PC(I have had this experience) or not work at all, theres no reason I can think of why it would just work slowly. Hmm, I've just read this and I think it probably doesn't help :0)

Dont know if anyone else has mentioned this but to run Quake2 with any kinda performance on a K6 chip u need to patch the Q2 exe with the 3DNow patch which u should find on the net somewhere...

My m8 had same problem. Doubled his fps doing this....

Hope this helps
