Ok, why on earth should Aliens Versus Predator frame for crying out loud!!!!! I have a Skynet rivalling PC and game frames!!!! Ok, what the real problem is is has any1 else had the same problem. I really need to know because otherwise I need check my system very thouroghly. Dose AVP frame on any of your PC's, the frame rate on mine drops to around 15fps which is unplayable. This is something I really dont understand. Please help!

It may sound sill, but the only solution is to defragment your hard disk. Trust me, it works wonders (do it even if its 1% fraged)

I have no problems what so ever with my pc and avp.

My spec is

p2 333 celeron
256 mb memory
v2 12mb
tnt

I dont get any noticable slow downs at at all.

I have two pc's my 2nd is a k6 233mmx with 96mb memory and a v2 12mb. With these two pc's are have a home lan and I do experiance low frame rates with it, but in mp it's not too bad.

Press contolr + alt + delete to see what background programs you have running and close down all none essential ones. All you need to run your pc is explorer and systray everything else can be shut down.

As an example on startup i have icq, getright and sblive control centre running in the background. Things like virus checkers can be closed also make sure you don't have microsofts autoupdate running.

And don't forget to defrag your hard drive.

Hope this helps

Download the patch. This sorts out the CD audio causing framerate problems.
That may have been the reason why it frames.

Yeah, I have got the patch already but it doesnt help, I have TRIED to defrag my harddisk but at 6.4 Gb, this is rather SLOWWWW. I started at 12pm, it worked for 2 hours then crashed, so I will set it to defrag tonight. Thanks for the help, but try setting fire to a couple of Aliens and see what happens when they get close to you. I visited the AVP forum on ActionXtreme.com
I am not the only one to suffer this, people with P3 500 and 550 have fps lowering to 15 as well.

Oh, and some info on AVP, did u know that everything is in greyscale? The colour is just clever use of lighting! The reason for this is the number of textures that had to be used.

Joe Bayley is right m8.. U have to defrag
the disk completely even if it only prompts to do the files only, dont ....do the whole disk....

My fps went from about 5 to 105 in one swoop well the alien runs like s.hit off a shovel !

Have to admit guys i dont get any problems on my machine which is.

PIII 500
128mb ram
diamond 770 ultra
10 gig udma
awe64
32x cdrom

mind you i'm using a perm 128mb swap file.

the only time my fps drops to extremely slow is the huge waterfall in the 1st predator level. apart from that its fine

It's a funny thing about this game - it's the first game I have EVER installed that has warned my to defrag the hard drive first.

If all else fails UNINSTALL AvP, defrag (a mates pc took almost 9 hours to do this cause he hadn't done it for so long) then reinstall the game.

Another thing - if you think the defrag is gonna take a while then disable your screensaver first. I've had probs before now with everything going well till the ss kicks in and crashes the system.

BTW - I actually only bought this game a couple of days ago and havn't really had the time to play it properly yet (although from what i've seen it looks VERY cool) - how can you tell how many frames/sec your getting?
