Keep the search up! I would love to play a really good racing game (with lots of visible cars) online. I can see the lag is more critical than in most games. Me and a friend used to have really good modem-modem games of "pod", abd that was awesome.

Well since WP already has a fine rallying game, I don't think the priority should be finding another! Also, there isn't quite that up close and personal feel of circuit racing (or even Stock Car or DD :))

I agree Fidtz - what we really need is a server-based game - which is why I have high hopes for Nascar - server-based circuit racing. We'll see how it works out. Actually, a good racing game has been a priority for a while now, but I've just never found anything that I'd consider worked well enough.

Nascar 3 has just been released over here, and unlike the prevoius versions it supports directX and so the graphics are cool.

most people who enjoy racing games take the thought of racing on Oval tracks boring, but that isn't the point of nascar...the point of it is the speed that the cars go, and the knowledge that you make a mistake and you could end up in the pit wall.

Besides drafting along behind an online player on an oval or any other race sounds great to me.

I wonder if a standard practice arena would be availible though, whereby players just turn up and 'practice' rather line up for a race? i don't know how the new version works yet as i haven't bought it (Yet) but it would be a nice idea.

I like it Gibson:

The idea of a continually running race where you get/lose points for overtaking/being passed by other cars.

Start in the pits to get up to speed and then keep going for as long as you want and cruise into the pits again to leave the game.

Different arenas or rooms would be different tracks.

This would be awesome. Not available of course ;) but awesome.

now the continually race idea i would buy nascar just for that

summery of a nascar race
go fast in a strait line, turn left, repeat for about 2 hours.
sounds a bit dull really.

If they simulate Nascar accurately , it is supposed to be a lot better than that. The tracks are very bumpy and you are constantly dicing with other cars at very high speeds.
This is one game where a high degree of realism is needed to make it challenging and make driver skill tell more.

Crap single player game obviously.
