Those of you who play UT on WP might have noticed the silly ammount of time it takes UT to load up and get you in a server. The way UT is designed is to load it up then do your browsing from the game menu.
Its a bit of a sore point with WP2 as the current 'join server' process doesnt suit UT.
Have you thought about changing the way UT launches? Or maybe even creating a UMOD for UT to add the WP servers (For WP3 users only) to the UT browser. Ive noticed that a couple of existing MOD's for UT have managed this adding their own section to the UT server types.
This is just an idea, and with a development team like we got here it shouldnt be too much trouble!!
Good suggestion - we need to look into this kind of thing.
However, we like the traditional 'load Wireplay, browse around a bit, chat with people, select game and then run'.
If you just load up UT, select a server and start it's not really a Wireplay experience.
Hopefully, there will be enough stuff of interest in the client for you to actually want to go their first.

Hi Everybody,
I think the UT browser is a great idea, esp. as it is a pain in the arse to load UT.. I mean it takes AGES to load, and it's really annoying when u get to the game it comes up with that famous message
"SERVER FULL". Agggghhh (Tsunami rips his hair out!).
Most ppl would still have the WP experience when they first join, but, this gives them a quick way to switch servers...
Top Idea, Behemoth 8) I'm with you on this one http://www.gameplayerz.com/ubb/smile.gif

Ah, some more UT peeps http://www.gameplayerz.com/ubb/smile.gif Lo all!
I haven't found the log in time to UT to be too bad. It seems to be affected by so many variables, (RAM,processor, connection speed, fragmentation of your HD, display drivers etc, I say guessing wildly) that for some it is impossible (2 minutes plus) and others it is fairly good (20 seconds). The browser makes a difference, but not too much of one (after all, it doesn't search for games until you choose "Find Internet Game".
Ok, I guess 20 secs is still along time for a fast PC but...
Actually, Ive no idea where Im going with this. I shall endeavour to make future posts less shamblezzz on this forum http://www.gameplayerz.com/ubb/wink.gif

The point im making is that with the way you 'join a server' now means you have to shut down UT then do the whole process over again. It is very annoying, its not a problem with other games but i think UT needs a exception......
Funnily enough we discussed 'pre-loading' of games with several developers a year or more back (DiD were quite keen I remember).
The idea is to get the game into RAM (no UI) while the player is choosing their particular server, then passing the connection info to the game which can spring into life. This could work with DirectPlay lobbyable games, or any client-server game if it can be stopped at the point where it needs the connection info... and that's the tricky bit: every game will be different since there are no standards for doing this kind of thing..

Ah, sorry Behem, got the wrong end of the stick :emb:
As far as I know, other games have the same problem though dont they? The other FPSs Ive played on WP (HL and Kingpin, and a bit of Q3 test) all needed you to quit the game before starting again as far as I can remember (im not 100 percent sure because i havent played them for weeks)?
Its late though so I might be very wrong, if I am just post "shut-up you f-wit" and ill stop http://www.gameplayerz.com/ubb/smile.gif

Yeah they too have to do this, but its not such a problem as they can load up relatively quickly. Q3 for example can have you on a server in about 10 seconds.
