Angle brackets?

Erm, how come if you say something within angle brackets it doesnt show up on screen, but is still there if you edit your message?

Like this:
<Test>

Also, is it just me or is editing messages up the creek on this Forum? (I'm using Explorer 5.5 Beta, which is a bit flaky with UBBs).
I edited a message twice, but the second edit took out the changes to the first. I was going to edit it again and then I noticed it was still showing the original message for me to edit, so I left it how it was...
