Do you mean Force Commander. This is the only new Star Wars game i've heard of. However it is not Online only but does have multiplayer so we will have a look at it.

No, there is a Star Wars MMORPG in the works from LucasArts. You are looking at 2001-2002 realistically though. I will have a look for the reference.

:o

found this, best I can do, though these people know a lot about rpgs.

Here's what I've heard about the Online Star Wars game. (Please note this info is over 6 months old and may well have changed in the interim). Imagine, if you will, Jedi Knight combined with Xwing Alliance with a bit of trading thrown in. That should give you an idea as to what was originally planned. I honestly can't remember where I read this info and it may be well off the mark, but considering how advanced Online games have become I think that it is possible.

The Vault fan site for this is now launched and can be found at swvault.ign.com

That is a bit enthusiastic!

I doubt thay have hired the people yet, let alone started writing it!

Mind you, posting speculative drivel might be a way to get in on the alpha and beta tests ;)

And another thing.

Is a business model of

1. Very expensive server licence
2. A 10-20% cut of each monthy subsciption
3. Thousands of developers extending your game for you (and therefore increasing it's lifespan).

fundamentally flawed? It seems like a way of printing money to me.

The bottom line is that anyone who has the Star Wars license in any form has a license to print money basically. It's a guaranteed earner and you can't go far wrong. The QA at Lucasarts/ILM s/w division is also stringent enough to ensure that not just any cack gets through, but a decent interpretation of the license.

True, the SW licence compounds the money making possibilities but doesn't this apply to any good MMORPG? Lots of local servers will always add up to more players and therefore more money than the monolithic system they have at the moment.
