just wondering if WP will be supporting freespace 2 at all?
Fraid not. freespace 2 is limited to a specific match making service (can't remember what exactly at the moment), which means that the multiplayer code is not freely available for Wireplay to use.
Which means we brits have to put up with PXO, which is all the way over in the states :(

well the i think u should send round the WP gang to rough'em up and beat the code out of um.... or just... er.... ask for it!
why on earth do the games company's insist on keeping games to only selected networks? i know it is to make their own networks more popular but when a server is located in the US who in europe/the rest of the world is actually going to bother they will just use ip addresses if they can.

Hmm, is this just me or does it seem like you feel strongly about this sort of thing Cammey m8?
Having said that I agree completely, what is the point in trying to restrict gaming services like this, especially in this case where low pings are key, UK connections going through to the US just arent up to it, we do need a local site for Freespace 2, I think PXO may recieve a scathing email.
While I agree with you in principle, in fact in the case of peer-to-peer games like Freespace 2 it doesn't really matter as long as you play against people who you know are near to you geographically, as the actual game connection is directly between your machine and your opponents - so if you are playing against somebody in Sidcup, your connection is straight to sidcup, even if you use a match-making service in the states.
That having been said - providers are putting their own temporary greed for traffic and users before the interests of gamers, and many of them are rapidly discovering that this a). enrages the players and makes them more unpopular, and b). cripples the evolutionof large communities around a game. Providers offer tempting benefits to developers to provide exclusive games, but many developers who have succembed to temptation quickly discover that they'd bought a pig in a poke.
