After 7 months of very dodgy conections using an unbranded K56 modem i got for £15 at a computer fair I finally got it working.
So heres a quick(ish) way of fixing a modem
1. On unbranded modems there's an FCC number.
There is a site (www.driverguide.com) on the net that links FCC numbers to manufacturers. So find out who made your modem.
2. Go to www.driverguide.com and sign up (this isnt an ad, its geniune appreciation for the site). Drivegide will have web addresses for your manufacturer. So go there.
3. Search the manufacurer site for new drivers, flash upgrade etc. if you dont know what model your modem is it will be in your modems manual (if it isn't the just scan through all the available drivers and pick one that sound like yours ie v90 internal fax or k56 eternal or whatever)
4.Run all the install jobbies you download.
