I recently bought a spanking new modem pace 56k internal, but after I had put it in its isa slot, and win98 had auto installed it, when I try to get on to wireplay or run its diagnostics it says modem is not responding, or could have wrong irq. It sets itself up on com3 which it creates supposedly .but isn't in the list of ports in device manager, it has irq 5. Any one clever enough to know what to do? Could be duff modem of course(came from mail order) thanks, ned

When you first put it in you machine and then turned it on did it detect the modem it's self? If not it could mean u ain't put it in properly or it's faulty, you could try taking it out and putting it back in again if it didn't detect it when u switched on.
Also you could try just deleting all it's drivers and reinstalling it cos that sometimes helps.
And if that don't work ask someone who know about the technical stuff cos I don't really http://www.wireplay.co.uk/ubb/smile.gif
erm com3 isnt on irq 5 its on irq 4 http://www.wireplay.co.uk/ubb/worry.gif
i think the setup bolloxed itself. try a complete reinstall

you can configure/allow the com ports to use any combination of address and IRQ as log as there is no conflict.
if the compputer has assigned it to com3 then it must have detected the modem, otherwise you would have had to use win hardware install to add the port.
try the removal and reinstall of your modem/drivers & make sure it's not in a shared ISA/PCI slot.
