USR 56k

Hi all. I'm having problems with my ping. I've got a USR 56K Winmodem voice internal. Whenever i log onto wireplay or internet the modem box always shows i'm connected at 33,600. I put the connection speed down and it goes to 44,000. My ping is allways about 250-300

PLEASE HELP!!!
