go for a voodoo3-3000 or a riva tnt2 graphics card
I have a V3-2000(poor http://www.wireplay.co.uk/ubb/tongue.gif ) some will say the tnt2 some will say voodoo3, im put my money with 3dfx, but there are alot of new cards coming out soon, so as usual it's top spec for a few months only http://www.wireplay.co.uk/ubb/frown.gif
p.s The AMD K6-3 series has been said to be a much better games platform (dont quote me on that)
thats just what i heard im sure someone will correct me. http://www.wireplay.co.uk/ubb/teeth.gif

ok thanx...i think that the K6 chips are graphically better but mathmatically slower.
Ne other suggestions from ppl?
Regards,
Qui
Forget AMD processing (soz Dancer http://www.wireplay.co.uk/ubb/tongue.gif )
Upgrade to 256MB ram.
Essential for the next two years of gaming.

I cant really recommend what mobo to get but make sure you get one with enough DIMM slots to put the 128MB and 64MB DIMM in. I would be tempted to wait a couple of months or forget about a decent video card for two months and wait for the NV10 - that's when the next generation of cards are coming out, I think they are meant to be quite different from existing cards (ie they are brand new designs not made from existing ones as the others have been).
I think the K7 may be out around then but I am not too sure on that.

Megawinner suggested I should go for this instead:
AMD K6 | | | 475 - Gonna over clock it to 525
128 RAM
IDE 6.4gb Hard Drive (western digital)
Voodoo 3 3000
Intellimouse
Linksyss ether16 combo LAN card
He says the Rage Fury 32 mb Graphics Card is much better for image quality but the voodoo 3 3000 is faster.
what should I go for people!!

Just got my new sys today!
P3 550 256ram 9.1 scsi hdd
Ati 128 32 ram...and thats the problem
cant get the open gl drivers(if they exist)
to talk to Q2 etc.
Put V2 12mb sli(the old 3dfx faithfuls)
back in ...Bingo!
Where are the Ati open gl driver/s support anyway?
1. AMD's run hot as it is, you need amother of a fan if u want to over clock it.
2. K6-2 will outperform the P2 / P3 at the same clock speed ( They get a better mark in Final Reality and Winstone)
3. Only buy scuzzi, IDE is slow.
4. Personaly i prefer the savage 4, 32mb, supports Open-GL etc etc.
5. In my opinion Creative make the best cards.

1) SCSI costs a bomb m8
2) I heard somehwere that you only need another fan IF you overclock it more than 50 mhz.

There are no 'rules' for the amount of fans you use, but the cooler your system the better. I have an extra 6 fans, 2 of them 6inchers. If you can touch the chips on yer 3D cards after 2 hours of gaming, you know you are OK http://www.wireplay.co.uk/ubb/smile.gif

Erm...Amd k6-2's will not outperform P2's of the same clock speed in terms.
However, in a 3d-now optimised application you will almost certainly get an equivalent performance to a P2 of the same clock rate. (And I have a K6-2, BTW, and it is a good chip).
I can't comment on the K6-3 'cos I haven't seen one running or the benchmarks for it.
However, you definitely don't want to overclock these chips without serious cooling.
If you're looking for the fastest commercial processor currently available though, it's gotta be an AMD Athlon - this thing leaves a P3 standing (45% faster at FPU operations than an equivalent clock rate P3...). Erm..unfortunately, they're bloody expensive and the M/board uses a custom Slot called Slot A rather than Intel's slot 1.
Erm..I've got a V3 3000 too, and TBH I'm not all that impressed with it. Then again, they're only on the 2nd driver release and if you want compatibility then look no further.
