I need some advise (and help!)

I am just wondering if anyone can look at my MUD2 website and give me advise on how to improve it. I am fairly new to HTML and would like someone to give me a helping hand in trying to design a fairly catchy website.

Whilst I quite like the background (as far as backgrounds go) it is almost impossible to read the text. I would suggest switching to bold white text if you want to keep the background, or just go to a nice clean layout, either dark grey background/white text or vice versa.
