I was stoopid enuff to get one of these the other day. I have read and re-read the 'x-chris' string below which was very enlighening....but...

This one i have is a PCI card. Bumph on 'wellmodem' webby says that v90 & k56 are auto-detected by the modem/drivers. Sooo, how come i get connects of between 46000 and 50667 on my ISP & BW but i ALWAYS connect at 33600 to wireplay?

I wasnt and am not expecting pace-type pings from it, but i thot i'ld get a little better than my old 28.8/33.6. (With that i had pings around 180-220 on QW...now i get 220-300 and outrageous spikes).

Anyhow startin ta ramble a bit...any answers to me question on 33.6 to WP greatly appreciated.

Ta much

Smokestak,

Hmmmm, sounds like your modems version of V.90 does'nt like talking to WP's version
of V.90.

And, as WP does'nt support K56, that leaves your modem with no choice but to negotiate a V34 (33600) connection.

Perversley (if that's how you spell it ?), that leaves you with a PCI modem at 33600, rather than a standard modem at 33600. As the
PCI modem uses some CPU to handle the comms, and the standard one did'nt, you would have been better off with your old modem http://www.wireplay.co.uk/ubb/cry.gif

3 choices i can see :-

1. Take the PCI modem back.
2. Set yourself up with a BTClickFree account (takes about 2 mins, and is free). Then try accessing WP via BTClick. You may find you can access BT at V.90 speeds, then go into WP.
3. Try and find the latest drivers for the PCI. You may get lucky in that they have updated the firmware.

Hope this helps.
Cheers
