Did u know that u can plug in a pair of HEADPHONES into the mic socket on a soundcard and speak through one of the ear pieces, meaning that you can use HEADPHONES as a MICROPHONE!
lol, yeh, i thought the same thing when I found out about it about half a year ago.

That's because microphones pick up vibrations (ie sound waves) and send convert them to electricity, send em to an amp and then u get the signal back loads louder through speakers which create vibrations.
