I did post this a couple of weeks ago but there was no replies, so here goes again...

If anyone is interested in supplying constructive critisism, take a look at RoADA - South Yorkshire Group (http://www.fyi.co.uk/~sondar/syg-roada)

Don't try emailing anything with a vixen.org.uk ending, the domain doesn't exist yet (should be in 2 weeks).

This site isn't technically live yet so don't go passing it around willy-nilly. I'm waiting for confirmation from RoADA HQ to be able to use their logo.

I know some of the links don't work, I don't have the content yet. Plus the really observant of you lot (is there one http://www.wireplay.co.uk/ubb/smile.gif) will notice some code commented out in the navigation script. This is because the server it is on doesn't allow user cgi's.

I'm thinking about creating a non-frame version, this should be simple for perl to emulate frames however when it comes to a comment/guestbook it gets a little complicated, however I believe I have a solution. Otherwise, do any of you lot have any other suggestions as to how I can go about doing it in a different way?

Nice graphics but the main frames are way too small.
Make the bottom frame a lot smaller

Gfx: I like to think so... Did 'em myself - except for the RoADA logo and the car in the top right (from the Clipart site at MS).

Bottom frame: I know, I'm trying to make it smaller. Top frame can also be made smaller my making the gfx smaller. I work at a huge resolution of 1600x1200 so I sometimes forget what it will look like at smaller ones.

Ah... Yes... Tried the site at 800x600. Hmm...

Gonna have to use Javascript to select different versions for various sizes.

I thought 640x480 that I had to use at Uni (6 years ago) was bad.

Hope it helps

When looking at websites i am always ruthless ( http://www.wireplay.co.uk/ubb/smile.gif) so dont think im not being nice but this is exactly what i think http://www.wireplay.co.uk/ubb/stare.gif
1. bottom frame is a complete waste of time, use that little bit on the bottom of each file, atm very little information is displayed in the frame
2. SYG logo plus the "South Yorkshire etc" logo also is far too big, everyone knows what theyve come to look at so make it smaller
3. car logo thing, looks awful, remove it
4. contents - why? no one that thick that they need to know what the links are for
5. make it so that all links can be seen at any time, much better for navigation
6. the links are good, if a bit slow, but why the "tooltips" (ie the yellow explanation box that appears when u put the mouse over the image) very BAD, remove it, and u already use status bar scripts to describe it dont use tooltips as well.
7. text too big
8.backgrounds - use the same background throughout hte pages or dont bother
9. coolsig AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH get rid NOW
10. http://www.wireplay.co.uk/ubb/smile.gif

its not that i h8 the site, but thats what i think
Thanks http://www.wireplay.co.uk/ubb/smile.gif

S8N - <BLOCKQUOTE><font size="1" face="Arial, Helvetica">quote:</font><HR>a bit cluttered?<HR></BLOCKQUOTE> - Eh? Elaborate.

Qui, that's OK, I asked for "constuctive critisism"...
<OL TYPE=1>
<LI>Bottom Frame - going...
<LI>Large logos - must remember at all times, never assume what resolution other people use http://www.wireplay.co.uk/ubb/smile.gif
<LI>Car logo - looks better than a site construction gif, plus SYG love it, so its gotta stay.
<LI>Contents - I'll have to send you the outline I had to stick to that RoADA gave me.
<LI>Links seen at all times - not sure what you mean here, are they too big so that a scroll bar appears for that frame?
<LI>Tooltips - browsers like to yank out ALT descriptions and show them as tooltips. I use ALT descrips for text browsers (yes, some people do still use them), also browsers that are designed for the blind use ALT descrips to convert to speech. Status bar can go instead.
<LI>Text too big - Huh? The only thing I do is change the font face to Arial, I don't mess with the size.
<LI>Backgrounds - "site under construction", put it down to a feature (where have I heard that before?).
<LI>Coolsigs - I was messing, forgot I had it there.

yep looking much better that m8, quite prfessional.
if you want a free domain name, go to www.freenetname.co.uk (http://www.freenetname.co.uk) you have to use them as your isp but its worth it. otherwise try www.cjb.net (http://www.cjb.net) for a good url redirection service.

Keep up the good work http://www.wireplay.co.uk/ubb/smile.gif
