I cant connect at more than 28k sometimes when its really bad, most of the time its around the low 30's

my modem is..
Rockwell 56k ACF 2
connected to BT internet
I think its running at v90 -it says on the box...
v.90 & k56flex, dual mode, auto switchable,

I presume this means it will alredy run v90 without an upgrade?
its less than a year old, if this helps

I cant get over 35k, it being 32 on average, but sometimes as low as 19

I know I ought to change my init string but I dont know what to put.

First, go to: http://www.56k.com
There should be some strings for you to try in there. Next, go to the website of whoever made your modem (can be tricky to find out with Rockwell based modems) and make sure you get the latest drivers for you modem. You might have to flash it up to v90 - do so if you can, Wireplay don't support Flex and v90 is better anyway. Also, phone BT and make sure your line isn't a DACS line - this is a normal line that's been split, thus you only get half the speed you would normally get. They usually only install DACS lines if it's a second line in your house - but check anyway. This catches quite a few people out.
The only other thing I'll say is that Rockwell modems don't work very well at all for Wireplay (or games in general). I used to have one myself, and I gave up in the end and bought a 3COM/USR http://www.wireplay.co.uk/ubb/frown.gif

I had this connection speed problem too we have 8 phone plugged into on phoneline. I found that unplugging the phones from the line when im on the internet give me a connection speed of 50kbps. That might help for those of you have bad connection speeds.
