Trying to tweak my modem

You people seem to know your stuff so ill give it to you strait....
Ive spent all day using some tutorial on optimising your modem, at http://www.tweak3d.net/ so far my results have been far from amasing anyway i need to know the mtu for powerplay. If you have any other info on tweaking my modem i would be very gratefull

There's been debate about MTU size for WP before (search for MTU on the modem forum and you will probably find lots of messages).

It's 1500, although most people (me included) have found little difference whatever setting you have.

What modem you got m8, and what kind of ping/latency do you get ?

I got a US robotics 33.6k modem and i get about 200 ping. That is pretty good for a modem that cost me £12.
It seems to download much faster than my mates 56k jobbie at about 6k/sec on currantbun but on powerplay i get a bit of lag.
Ta for the info anyway mate *now i cant blame the lag for getting wasted on quake2 http://www.wireplay.co.uk/ubb/smile.gif*

Hmmm
Just had a quick Action quake deathmatch, my ping is slightly lower and the lag is only just noticeably less at best, also about twice in half an hour my controlls went mad and the screen was moving all over the place on its own
Could that be something ive done???
Il probably comtinue fiddling with my modem so any ideas will be helpfull

A nice tip for everybody here

I`ve got a 56K voice modem, and get about 4Kb downloading times. So I thought there must be a way of speeding it up. And the answer is Compress data. Heard of it? Thought so.

Go into the properties of the modem, the connection tab, advanced settings and UNTICK the compress data box. Restart you computer. Log on and notice a 1kb extra. It worked for me.

I did get 250 ping normally, now below 200!

Yep - because it stops your PC compressing data twice (as long as you have the software compression option ticked that is).
