my lag is 400+all the time

my modem is pctel 56k v90 and i keep getting nasty latency on all games, i have tried tweaking mtu,mss,rtwin and ttl settings but no joy.

any advice would be appreciated

i try'd that, but bt said they can't do it the only way of improving it is to get isdn.
but thats to expensive.

Do you have a specific type of line ie, one that BT can't alter because BT are morally obliged to change your gain setting if your not happy!

I've done it, phoning BT should be one of the first things you do if you have line troubles, as that is usually the case for disgruntled Quakers smacking their Modem of the wall!

Try making sure your DUN is setup as explained on my web site.

If this does'nt help, please post back here what kind of performance you get (and what connection speed you get).

i've phoned them again and they said their going to do a line test,then turn up the gain if needed(but their computers are down at the moment,typical).They said its something to do with the line noise, that effects it apparantly.

I think u could be on to something there about the software modems,cuz i bought my computer from TIME.My modem is a pctel 56k/V.90.I might need to upgrade to modem that has devoted chip.
