View Full Version : Help! - connection suddenly lost half it's capacity

Am using a Diamond SupraExpress 56i V Pro and used to get a fairly stable connection at 45-48 kbps. 2 weeks ago my connection suddenly became extremely unstable and now only connects at 33333 bps. I've re-installed the latest drivers, etc. but it's made no difference.

I DID add some extra RAM just before this happened but the memory works just fine and I've tried running without it again to no avail

Here is the iffy part from my modem log:

Anyone got any ideas (apart from shouting at BT)?

Cheers in advance.

Heath,

Have you got the log extract from before you started dialling (the bit that shows the modme init string).

Also, did you reload the drivers you had ?
There were some new ones issued on 19th July, which you can get here :-

ftp://ftp.diamondmm.de/comm/56kpro/9x56ip56.exe

Other than that, have you added anyting to your telephone setup (new extensions, Sky digital box etc etc) or anything else new to your PC ?

I presume you are dialling into BTI, so you modem setup looks o.k to me (using comrpess data and error control). You could my web site to see if there is anyting else you might have missed.

Cheers

Ta for replying Slime.

I've added no new hardware to my comp (apart from the RAM) and nothing's been added or removed from the phone set-up.

I was using the 19th July drivers with absolutely no probs before everything went mental - and I've reinstalled them twice for good measure since the 'troubles'.

Here's the first part of a typical modem session:

I'm now thinking that this is probably a line fault, unless you know otherwise?

Cheers in advance again.

Heath,

Heath,

Try this in your "extra settings" (replacing anyting else you have there unless they are essential).

AT+MS=12,0,41333,45333

This should force it to connect at a speed between 41333-45333.

Let's see what happens then.

OK - I don't use any init strings with the modem. I tried it with the one you suggested but windows fails to detect the modem (in fact I have to remove the init string and reboot to get it back online).

Did I mention that my connection is very unstable now too and that the probs affect all my ISP connections.

Any other suggestions Slime?

Cheers again.

Heath,

Hmmm, if it affects all of your ISP connections then it does sound more likely to be a phone line problem.

Sounds like it's time to persuade BT that it's their fault (good luck....been there and it's not easy http://www.wireplay.co.uk/ubb/frown.gif

Heath,

What happened mate - was it BT, or is your modem still sulking ??

Sorry Slime, been busy getting ready for my hols. Will moan at BT when I get back - I'll post the results here when I feel things are sorted (hopefully in time for Unreal Tournament - yum!).

Cheers for all your help.

Heath.
