56k modem connects at 31200 and what are ping rates

I need some help, ive got a 56k modem and it only connects at 31200 1 in 10 at 44000 is there a way to tweak my modem? i've heard people say that you should have the latest drives for your modem but how do i get them do i buy them or download them or what. Also people say ping rates what are they and how can i find mine out.

A ping rate is the amount of time it takes for information from your computer [I.e I'm firing my gun] to go to the server [the gun has been fired] to go back to your computer [your opponent is now full of holes] To tweak your modem, in the start menu, click settings, then control panel, then modems, then properties, then connection, then advanced. Toy about a bit with the setting in there. I've switched flow control off. And error control and compressed data on. Look mabye @ http://www.modemhelp.com/ if you need further help. You may need to update your drivers.

Hi I had the same problem connecting to WP at 31200 or 44000 if i waqs lucky! I simply shifted my modem to another pci slot and now it connects at 52000 9 out of ten times to either isp i connect to, if you have to shift cards around dont worry windows realise`s this and reinstalls to the new slots. hope that helps, CYA!
