I HATE MY MODEM!

Ok i need some serious help!
Every time i boot up my comp each day i cant go straight into the net. If i try to dial it wont connect and will just sit there. I click cancel and try again and my comp starts to go at about the speed of a spectrum running Win 98 (VERY SLOWLY or NOT AT ALL!)
I reset my comp and then remove the old drivers and reintall the modem. ( The comp wont detect the modem by the way it will just install if i say "have Disk"). Then it seems to work ok for the night untill the next day when i have to do the same thing all over again. Also the comp seems to persist when i uninstall the modem and reinstall, i always reset the comp after the installation and it always seems to detect the modem as another modem driver which i know is the wrong one!
Can anyone tell me what i can do to stop this or if they have experienced the same problem and how they stopped it. Is it a Virus? Is it an major error?

erm

dunno mate off the top of my head, but, you running win98 or win95 ? it may well be that re-installing the dun/networking stiff might help.

alternatively, it might be a bios problem with the modem not bieng assigned an IRQ properly ? if you have a lot of cards/hardware that needs IRQ's, you're modem might be sucking the hind tit on the IRQ allocation side of things ... and therrefore not getting one till you re-install.

just a few random ideas that might be causing the problem mate, have a fiddle with bios IRQ settings and/or re-installing the DUN and networking bits of windows and se if they help
