right old doddery modem , really needs replacement. But what actually is wrong , its a USR 56k x2 Winmodem (v90 , x2) , bout 2yrs old (eeeeep) , Im getting random disconnects and I can never connect to Wp Direct from my BT line but can from my cable line. If i turn on Software compression it doesnt tend to disconnect as often , but then im connect at 30-40 bps. And I cant play for love nor money on it. Im actually going to buy a Supra jobby either tomorrow or later in the week but I'd really like to know if its just poo or theres a problem. Im not far from my exchange and im not Dacs'd etc. Logfile for you to peruse. I just played a game and it disconnected.

Hi mate,

Best diagnosis tool with USR modems is probably the "ati6" command after your call is completed (or...in your case disconnected !).

Try that (details on my webby under USR/3COM diagnostics on the front page) - and maybe post the results back here.
