I need help.Something terribly wrong wi mi modem

Well i cant get my breath.Maybe its the 40 lengths of swimming or maybe its this bloody modem and its connection.Lets just recap.I joined wireplay about 2 months ago.Then i had this pc (450 intell3 128ram etc) with a 3com modem.This worked fine for about 4 weeks. I started gettin connection probs and in the quest for a better ping and faster internet connection i happened upon a program called easymtu.I ran this and ever since then i have had terrible problems with both wireplay and normal internet connections but mostly wireplay.I seems that i can startup get connected and go through the user verification ok but then i wait and ait and wait......Sometimes i'll get connected and run through things very slowly hoping that the connection wont time out or disconnect...sometimes the modem will just hang.I've gone through all my setups time after time but i just cant make any headway into it.Im really at my wits end so much so that i went out and bought a Diamond supra express pro 56k v.90 and this actually seems worse.Please can some one help im completely lost with this and i just cant use wireplay properly anymore.Even the chat areas seem to be a problem sometimes it just seems so laboured its a joke.My friends got a small laptop with a 28.8 modem and uses the same software as me but his setup is so much quicker and stable than mine.So wots the prob . Please help me cos its drivin me nuts..............Stardude

Hi mate,

Thanks for all the info, but can you also tell us :-

1. Your O/S ?
2. Which modem you are using now (the 3Com or the Diamond). Oh - is the Diamond internal or external ?
3. What connection speed do you get and how do you dial in (via Wireplay Direct or BT Internet).

Also...it might be useful for you to enable modem logging (see my webby for details) as i might ask to see some modem logs at some point.

I'm using windows 98
Using my diamond i usually get 40000 and pings on TFC which i usually play are around the 200-300 mark
Using my 3com (Which i previosly re-installed so i now have two in here) i get anywhere between 27500 and 50000 it varies and get pings of around 150-250 but generally faster than my diamond.
I've been noticing that they both are now taking an age to verify name and password so i just dont know whats up.I got up at 7.30 sunday the 28th and tried to log in before i went to work and i logged straight on just like i used too. This suggests to me that its either my phone or wireplay itself gettin clogged with traffic...But if thats the case everyone should have the same trouble?????Give me a clue slime.I've noticed that when i restrict my modem to 37500 it logs on better but games are unplayable i.e. TFC pings at 1500 upwards.

Sorry for the confusion m8 but as regards my diamond u have answered that one in a previous reply elsewhere because ive been sold the SST version which i didnt ask for so some ass kickin is too follow.But would this acount for the problems that ive been gettin - downloads have never been higher than 2.5 is this correct for the style off modems.Sorry for all the hassle...

Hi,

Hmmm, 2.5K on a 40000 connectioon speed might be about right, depending on what site you're downloading from.

I would either :-

1. Reinstall windows in an effort to correct whatever mess easymtu has got you into.
2. Or DEinstall one of the modems completely then see how the other behaves.

As for logging into Wireplay....try this.
Dial up WP Direct as usual (using a just a DUN not through the WP software). Once connected start the program "C:\Program Files\Wire2_20\wvpowerplay.exe" (stick a shortcut onto your desktop). That'll take you straight into the list of games and servers and you don't have to wait around while it authenticates you. Works very well for me :)

Lastly - go through my DUN setup and config on my website and make sure it's configured the same.
