I connect to wireplay direct always at 50666 to play half-life mainly cstrike and i always get a ping of 300+ is this normal? Ive got a P2 450mhz from Tiny with 128mb ram, voodoo banshee card. My modem is an internal v.90 K56 flex HSP PCI modem in com 4. Ive tried stuff like pushlatency decals etc to lower ping and some of slimes tricks like fifo buffers and nothing lowers it. When connecting through my normal ISP (NTL) using gamespy or half-lifes server search i connect higher than 50666 and never get pings below 400 and it always skyrockets when things get busy. Any advice appreciated.

i got a tiny pc and got the same modem guess what m8 its total crap, ditch it and get yourself a usr robotics internal v90 modem cost approx 70 same spec pc but a 120-130ping :) yeah also try using wireplay direct to dial not your normal isp that may help aswell.and finaly try putting the following in your modem extra settings box(it makes you connect at a max of 45333 as i found anything above made the ping/lag worse)&U25&N30

Lil Goody 2shoes,

As Fraggy says, it's probably not a very good modem as it's an HSP (Host Signal Processor) model. These use your CPU instead of dedicated modem chips.

More about HSP modems and my recommended list of (proper) modems is on my webby.

Cheers
