View Full Version : New Modem or Not?
I have used Slimes modem guide and reduced my Kingpin ping to around 220-230.
I've read on other posts that my modem is software based and that if I get one that is hardware based I will see improvements. With a current ping of 220 will I see any benefit or am I just wasting my cash on a new modem?
Your view are appreciated :)

Hi mate,
Glad the webby helped :)
If you intend on playing online a lot then i would definately recommend a good hardware modem. Kingpin is (from what i hear) very good on the net but many other games will probabbly not work very well with a software modem.
It just seems a shame to me that guys have great PC's with fast CPU's, 3d cards and shed loads of RAM, then play online with unsuitable modems.
I know it's a buggar if you've just spent loads on a new PC but, IMHO you'll get a lot more out of online gaming with a good modem.
£60 quid and you're sorted.
BTW - there's some recommendations on my webby if you need some ideas.
cheers

I'll definately get a new modem, probaly the Supra 56k external. In fact, I think I'll go shopping this weekend.
Thanx again.
