Hi m8,

(cheesy grin) I will try the tweaks later when i get home.....
but b4 i start is there anything that can be done to stop packet loss whilst playing q2???..
this is probably the most annoying thing that can happen to oneself :(
especially in the middle of a team game where frags count and not sudden lockup :(
BTW im using localtel which @ the mo is very good ping wise 145-180 max usually.
gonna try and get it down a bit with your guides :)

Hi mate,

I hope the webby helps. Packet loss tends to be more the fault of your ISP and/or games server you are playing on.
For example, BTI is quite bad for packet loss but Clarenet is very good.

Hopefully (once you've been through the webby) you'll be able to use STAC compression. I've found this gives me really nice performance. I've also noticed that i tend to get very few serial port overruns (i use an external modem).

BTW - Please try and configure your DUN as per my setup for Wireplay Direct then check to see if you are able to use STAC compression. Unfortunately i don't know if Localtel supports STAC (maybe you can let me know ??). If it does'nt, follow my setup for BTI.

If none of this make sense then post back here with as much detail as possible.

HI m8,
I followed your DUN guide for wireplay and screaming net.... wireplay worked a treat and i now get pings of 130-150 sometimes as low as 120 :)
as far as screaming.net goes im not so sure if theres much change?
what do ya mean by STAC compression? is that just when ya select software compression?
for the properties list?
like ive done for WP direct?

Yep - you configure STAC compression by selecting software compression under server types.

Unfortunately i already know that Screaming.net does NOT support STAC compression.

So....for your Screaming.net DUN configure it as my webby shows for BT Internet (i.e. do not select software compression but DO select compress data and error control).
