Fluke?
04-01-2000, 00:49
Hi slime, all

u may, or may not remember my problem, but basicly it was my pace 56 ext modem pausing for long periods. I tweaked it via ur Lagless guide and am getting good pings.

I use hardware compression and have reduced my connection.

I have a new problem however (as well as pauses), the first time I log on each night my modem ALWAYS disconnects after 15-20 mins, regardless of what I am online for.

I have enclosed a (stupidly long) modem log if that helps.

I know ur a top bloke already, but ul be THE topest bloke of the lot if u can sort me out http://forums.gameplay.com/ubb/teeth.gif

Ta in advance

Hi mate,

quote:
I use hardware compression

To me it looks like you are using software compression (i.e. STAC compression), which is what i recommend anyway so thats ok :)

quote:
and have reduced my connection

I notice the extra string, although have you ever tried to limit it some more ? It might be even better at lower speeds (less renegotiations of line speed). I'd start at 42000 and work up in small amounts to see which gives you the best (lagless) connection. The correct V90 connection speeds are on my webby.

quote:
I have a new problem however (as well as pauses), the first time I log on each night my modem ALWAYS disconnects after 15-20 mins, regardless of what I am online for.

Now that is weird. you mean EVERY time you first connect ? Is that your first connection of the day or your first connection after swtiching the PC on, or the first after rebooting. And do you mean you always disconnect after 15 mins using ANY ISP ?

quote:
I have enclosed a (stupidly long) modem log if that helps.

Always does - thanks. Don't worry about the length...it's not my disk space we're using up ;) Anyway, the log clearly shows that at 18:30:53.87 you were disconnected by the remote modem. What ISP were you dialling into ?

The second connection looks very good, 3.5 hours and hardly any serrial overruns, so no real problems there.

I also notice that the PC refers to your modem as "Pace 56 Voice Modem #3" ?? Does this mean you have other modems configured (or even other versions of this modem configured) ? If so, it is always good practice to try and have only 1 modem configured. I'm not sure it would make much difference to your problem, but every little thing helps.

I'll wait for some of the answers then take it from there.

cheers
Slime

Hmmmmm/ Grrrrrr http://forums.gameplay.com/ubb/cry.gif / :(

Hi again,

well I tried reducing my connection rate some more, and sudenly my (half)life was nackered

Could barely get into TFC at all, had to retry at least 5 times, and then when I eventually did get in I'd lagg up real bad every 30 secs or so. After a couple of mins I'd just crash out to wireview :(

I tried again checking my graph wotsit and was covered with orange and red spikes, then a big red bar when I lagged out each time.

I thought I had a log of this shambles, but turned out I turned my modem log off before :(

Eventually I just took the 'extra settings' line out (to reduce connection) and althow the general pauses online continued, my TFC seemed to be ok, lag wise for the remainder of the night.

As to the other probs; the disconnection in the 1st 20 mins thing, that is the 1st time i turn my pute pute on at night, dialing into WP Direct. I dont use any other isp ane more as I cant get on WP otherwise.

And the no.3 Pace 56 (cant find the number sign on these silly college G3's :p ), it is my only modem set up and hasnt got no.1 pace 56, no.2 pace 56 etc set up in the system or modem properties.

Well anyway, ta v.much for the help m8, unless there's anything else u can decipher from this then I'll just have to make to with waiting a bit longer for my smut to load up :(

At least my TFC sweetheart seems to be ok

[FM]Fluke

ps. Just found me on the TFC screengrab u have on Lagless.com. Now I'm famous http://forums.gameplay.com/ubb/teeth.gif

pps. note the ping too :)
