Ping Hell...FAO Big D and anyone who can help

Big D,
I hope u see this message and thanks for replying. As asked my setup is:-
56k V90 Dimond supra express 56i V pro internal modem
PC: AMD K62 400,128mbram,motherboard =asus p5a super 7 mainboard. I was not sure how to find the other details u mentioned. sorry.

For anyone else my problem is... A few days ago I called BT to ask them to increase the gain on my line. Since then my ping has greatly increased.
I went to lagless.com to tweak my setup but this has not worked for me but it worked for my brother (his ping decreased by 100 he is on cable though).

I have called BT again and they told me that the gain would not effect my line much either way??? is this true? if it is, is there anything else I can do.

I am currently pinging on q2 between 200 and 1500 eek. I would be grateful for any help/info.

Well.....it has ! Presuming that you haven't also done anything else major to your PC then the line gain has obviously had an adverse affect on your connection. Don't forget that the increase in gain (i.e. volume) may increase any existing problems that you already had. It works for some people, but not for others.

I'd hassle BT to change it back and see what happens then.

Hiya matey,

First of all Slime is right, you could have a DACS line or noisy line anyway.

The fact that you ping is spiking could point towards something like TCP/IP software compession. Mail me by clicking on the little envelope icon above and I will take you through checking various settings. If you on ICQ that will make things easier.
