Hi,

It'll probably have little affect on your connection speed as such (i.e. the speed at which you connect to the net). That mostly depends on your modem brand, modulation type, drivers, firmware and of course the quality of your phone line.

Unfortunately i don't use it myself (i have standard WIN9 http://forums.gameplay.com/ubb/shades.gif. The only gaming aspect that i've heard about is that some people have reported problems getting Windows to report wether you are using stac or micrsoft compression. Although i'm sure it supports it fine, it just seems to have a problem reporting it sometimes.

Networking wise i don't think there's much difference between WIN98 and WIN98SE. So the question is more wether you think the upgrade is worth it from WIN95 to WIN98.
Personally i prefer WIN98, it does seem more stable, slightly faster and has quicker access to some of the system tweaks which used to be provided only via tweaking software available on the web.

Sorry i can't add any more detail - maybe you should post the same question to the hardware modem and see if anyone there has any thoughts on the subject ?

Cheers

I've used SE and the look and feel of the OS is identical. There are a couple of advantages though. There is the "Internet sharing" thingy that lets 2 computers on a lan share a single internet connection. Several major bugs have been fixed, DX6.1 is implemented as standard as is IE5 (which is nice)

USB support has also been improved on Win98's which was infinately better than the shoddy USB support in Win95.

I say go for it. I prefer Win98. Despite all the horror stories, it is more stable, faster and more user friendly than Win95. It lets you use FAT32 a lot more easily and the maintainence utils are improved a lot. Go for it m8
