on a standard phone line it wont connect any faster than around 52 or 53k,

you can only use that sort of speed if you are using a high speed line, ISDN etc.

Chances are that you will not connect at 115200 as this is the DTE speed (see <A HREF="http://"http://www.lagless.com"" TARGET=_blank>Slimes Webby</A>)

That 115200 is the speed of data flow through the pc's port, i believe.

Hi,

Nope - Diamond aren't lying.

As BuzzinHornet says, the 230400 speed is actually the COM port speed between your PC and your modem (known as the DTE speed).

The problem is that WIN95 and even WIN98 (first release anyway) don't have the option to have the COM port speed any higher than 115200 ! I think WIN98SE might go up to (and beyond) 230400.

There are ways which you can tweak the registry and get WIN95/98 to go beyong 115200, but frankly i would'nt bother too much (i never have).

115200 is fine for the COM port speed and 48000-49333 is fine for connecting.

Hi,

Hmmmm, WIN98(1st edition) must have higher configurable values for internal com ports than external then.

I can set the system wide external COM port higher than 115200, but not on a per DUN basis. If that makes any sense.....

I have seen it said that the difference between 115200 and 230400 is about 5% throughput, so it's nothing great.

Cheers
