View Full Version : 3COM/USR 56k Voice Faxmodem Tweaks
I have bourght the modem in title recently in order to replace my HSP modem.
I have followed Slime's guide and get pings around 140=>210. One problem is that I often get "phone jacks" after a few minutes(10 to 15/20 I'd say) play, then it fixes itself and then anoth phone jack. Is it possible to fix this? Are the Latest drivers worth the download?
Also, does anyone know of anymore modem specific tweaks or init strings that would help bring down my ping even more?

I usually connect at 52000bps and above on my ISP with it, havent had a chance to use wireplay direct yet.
I play quake 2 and 3 and the occasional game of TFC and UT.
Spent the best part of an hour fiddling with the rate in Q2, didnt make much of a difference, I run at cl_maxfps 80 (lowering it doesnt make a difference with my TNT 2 Ultra for some reason).

Hi,
I'd suggest that your modem is retraining (i.e. renegotiating the connection speed) every now and then, because it can't sustain the initial connection speed. When it does this you will probably freeze up in the game.
I would limit your connection speed when gaming. TRy 44000 then increase it till you get the best compromise between speed and smooth gaming.
There is a section on my webby about limiting connection speeds with a USR modem.
