Ok I am making a UBB soon. I haven't boughten it yet or anything. The problem is I have no clue about html, cgi, perl, web desgin, javascript, ect...basically I'm wasting my money If I don't get help. What I need is to find a person or two, who know how to put in pretty much all hacks for a UUB, that I'll give them, and know how to make a side bar (with my design)...for an example of a side bar check out LG Forums (http://liquid.jaminnet.com/cgi/Ultimate.cgi) ...then you'll know what I mean about a side bar. If anyone can help me (and I mean like really know what they are doing) I would be very greatful. Please PLEASE, E-Mail me at danielmsg90@aol.com thank you.

Actually installing and hacking a UBB is easy, just takes time to go throught the files installing and testing hacks.

What server do you reccommend for the best results and easiest use?

I might as well ask these questions while I'm still online and on the topic.

1. What server do you reccomend for the best results and easiest use?

2. What do you have to know to install and run a UBB successfully?

3. How easy is it to put hacks in, for a newbie?

4. Back to my orgional question...anyone willing to help me putting in hacks and making a side bar, that knows their stuff?

Lets see, I personally have an account at Interserver.net, but I pay for that (works out at 7 quid a month), but an decent host that lets you run your own cgi scripts should do.

All you have to know to install a UBB is how to use an FTP client and how to CHMOD files with the client (I use cute, its ded easy in there, usually listed as change file permissions) for the rest of installing the help file is more than adequate. For running, well, lets see, its not bad, then again I dont get that much traffic.

And installing hacks.... is not to hard, there are instructions bundled with the hacks on what to change/add and you can do it all in notepad, some are in UNIX text files so just open those in wordpad to sort the carriage returns for those.

And to question number 4.. Depends on how you intend to do it, if you mean someone downloads, what I presume you mean is the freeware ubb and hacks it up for you, that so far is legal, however, if that person then sends you the hacked ubb files it breaks the license agreement, the person who hacked it would have to upload it to the final web space (That keeps in the agreement? Please correct me if its not). As for the side bar I cant help there. I just do the instally hacky stuff.

Doh! Forgot suggestion, to start with at least, use the Freeware UBB, its well, free and gives you an idea of how well UBB operates on your site/space.
