View Full Version : Modem Help Pages - Good/Bad Idea ?
Well email me on velvet@funkateers.co.uk whoever wants to help out... I'll email you the ftp details as soon as I have them and I should be able to give you your own email@funkateers.co.uk or a general WirePlay one which is forwarded to all...
We just need a name for the site now... I was going to create one called WirePlay Zone a few months ago for this sort of thing but never got round to it... Shall we stick with WP Zone or has anyone else got some ideas???
erm just a thought and possibly a little off topic but ...
why don't those of us who have got different modems and get a decent ping all get together and take screenies of the DUN config pages (port settings, advanced setting etc) and stick them all together on in a website format (top page linked to other pages) where the top page lists modem brands and protocols and the link goto pages for each modem actually showing what the settings are as a piccy rather than having to type everything out a million times as is happening now ?
That way, we can send it to WP and say :
we've done all the hard work all you have to do is stick it in a directory somewhere and put a whopping great link on the front page and the message boards for everyone to access it by ?
I think at one stage WP said the wanted to do something like this but they've never gotten round to it. If we provide them with the info already setup in HTML then the lazy gits only need to link to it.
Alternativly, we could get Velvet to stick it on one of his webby's and just point anyone with modem problems towards it.
I'm quite happy to voluteer to do the the pages if people want to email me the piccys etc.

The best way of getting this kind of info sorted is for real-world modem users to share info on what works. I may indeed be a lazy git but even working flat out on my own I'm never going to figure out the best DUN setting etc for every single modem out there. http://www.wireplay.co.uk/ubb/smile.gif
Here's an idea though ... how about a Wireplay web page that links to topics in this forum that (hopefully) discuss peoples experiences with particular modems?
That kind of resource, perhaps combined with the clever WireView feedback that Slarti has been discussing in the Tech Talk forum, might actually be very useful.
Tiger,
I guess this'll take a little while to setup.
In the meantime, can you start a thread titled "Pace 56 internal in here" with a link to your home page ?
I'll do the same for my Supra when i get home tonight and post the relevant info in it. hopefully then others will do the same (makes it much easier to find info about the modem you've got i think).
What d'ya reackon ?
Cheers

I think its a great idea, although you've already been beaten to it by Scarab whose just learning HTML to start a WirePlay Tech support site...
However, it might be nice if we all share our resources and it'd be easier if several people were working on it...
If you like I should be able to setup a new ftp account on my domain (something like www.funkateers.co.uk/modems or techwp) which I can give a few people the password for (suggest me, Tigs, sflatt, Scarab, Elethiomel etc)...
We can then get people to send in things and create the site bit by bit... Because we'd all have ftp access we can easily add news items and extra modem information...
Any good???

Velvet,
I think the name should reflect the content
and i'm not sure "Wireplay Zone" does ?
I dunno, hows about "Wireplay Techweb" or summit ??

P.S Will the site be searchable - that'd be really useful.
Wireplay Techweb - nice - I like http://www.wireplay.co.uk/ubb/smile.gif
I'm sure we can get a serch feature on there, lets see whos going to actively contribute and then we can start setting things up...
If anyone whos interest can mail me their preferred FTP login name and password then I can create FTP access to a directory...
Cheers
