This has worked for me, but i can't guarantee it'll work for all, but hey, worth a try right?
I'm using WIN98, so those with WIN95 may have to find different ways of doing a few things.
Here's what i did:
1) Delete all wireplay software from your system, this includes all registry entries too. Use regedit or similar editing tool and run the FIND command for 'wireplay' (without quotes) delete ALL entries that are found.
2) Shut down computer and wait for 2 mins (do not just hit the restart button)
3) Restart system and install the FULL WP client ver 2.30 (wp3) available from wp web site.
4) Client will still not work at this point so here's the business part:
5) Hit start button/programs/accessories/system tools and run system information, from the top context menu choose 'tools'. Look down the list for the entry titled 'System file checker' and click it.
(this may be different for win95 ppl, but i'm sure helpdesk can sort that out)
6) Choose 'extract file from installation disk' and hit the browse button to get to windows/system/msvcrt.dll and select it (if your having probs with wptool/kernel32.dll this may work too)
7) choose browse to the path of your install disk (if installed from HD point to the install dir. If system can't find msvcrt.dll, you may have to hunt around the directories for it)
http://www.wireplay.co.uk/ubb/shades.gif The file will be replaced with the original from your install disk/location and you have to reboot
MAKE SURE YOU REPLACE THIS FILE AFTER INSTALLING THE CLIENT, NOT BEFORE!!!
9) Client should now work, but if not, here's another handy workaround. My client was failing when i tried to type my name into the name/password section of the client, if yours is still, just fire up notepad, type in your user name as it appears in WP, highlight it and right click and select COPY. Now you can just paste in into the name field, while avoiding typing and causing the error. (NOTE: this still does not cure the problem unless you carry out the above too)
10) Get playing!!!
Hope this helps a few of you, i know i was starting to get a bit pee'd off with this error.
Good Luck.
Andy
