This has worked for me, but i can't guarantee it'll work for all, but hey, worth a try right?
I'm using WIN98, so those with WIN95 may have to find different ways of doing a few things.

Here's what i did:

1) Delete all wireplay software from your system, this includes all registry entries too. Use regedit or similar editing tool and run the FIND command for 'wireplay' (without quotes) delete ALL entries that are found.

2) Shut down computer and wait for 2 mins (do not just hit the restart button)

3) Restart system and install the FULL WP client ver 2.30 (wp3) available from wp web site.

4) Client will still not work at this point so here's the business part:

5) Hit start button/programs/accessories/system tools and run system information, from the top context menu choose 'tools'. Look down the list for the entry titled 'System file checker' and click it.
(this may be different for win95 ppl, but i'm sure helpdesk can sort that out)

6) Choose 'extract file from installation disk' and hit the browse button to get to windows/system/msvcrt.dll and select it (if your having probs with wptool/kernel32.dll this may work too)

7) choose browse to the path of your install disk (if installed from HD point to the install dir. If system can't find msvcrt.dll, you may have to hunt around the directories for it)

http://www.wireplay.co.uk/ubb/shades.gif The file will be replaced with the original from your install disk/location and you have to reboot
MAKE SURE YOU REPLACE THIS FILE AFTER INSTALLING THE CLIENT, NOT BEFORE!!!

9) Client should now work, but if not, here's another handy workaround. My client was failing when i tried to type my name into the name/password section of the client, if yours is still, just fire up notepad, type in your user name as it appears in WP, highlight it and right click and select COPY. Now you can just paste in into the name field, while avoiding typing and causing the error. (NOTE: this still does not cure the problem unless you carry out the above too)

10) Get playing!!!

Hope this helps a few of you, i know i was starting to get a bit pee'd off with this error.

Good Luck.

Andy

Andy,
thanks for the feedback. We forwarded this
to our labs, and is appreciated!

Also, should anyone else have any remarks/solutions/feedback to any known problem or issues concerning the new WP client, posting them here would be greatly appreciated...

Guys,
If your using Win98, print out my post and follow ALL steps. If, like Kulkusa and Spook you have Win95, you have two options as far as i can see, 1)Upgrade ;-) 2) i seem to remember a shareware proggy called CABVIEW, i'm sure you can get it from any internet shareware/freeware utility site, (Maybe www.winfiles.com) Basically, this allows you to read or otherwise look at the contents of Win95 or Win98 CAB files, the archive MS stores the files on the CD in. This, for win95 peeps, will have to replace steps 5 and 6 of my original post above. (i.e. just manually replace the msvcrt.dll file after loading the WPlay client. Run cabview, and you can now see in the cab files on the cd, choose 'Find' from your start menu, (start button/Find/etc...)and run a search of the win95 cd for msvcrt.dll. right click this and hit 'copy'. Paste the copied msvcrt.dll to a temp folder, say, c:\temp and restart the computer in dos mode. (Either from windows shut down menu, or hit the reset btn on pc and hit the F8 key when you see 'Starting windows 95' appear on the screen. You can now choose to boot to 'command prompt only' (dos)
Move to your windows/system folder (type: CD C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM <rtn> )
Then type RENAME MSVCRT.DLL MSVCRT1.DLL (or rename it to what you like, it doesn't matter, could call it bleedinfile.dll if you like) then go back to your root dir on C (C:\)move to the temp dir you copied the new msvcrt.dll to: C:\TEMP <rtn>
And type: MOVE MSVCRT.DLL C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM <rtn>. Now reboot, and things should be all hunky dorey and tickerty boot, If not, follow the rest of the first post above. WARNING!!! If you are not sure of what you are doing, DO NOT attempt to change your system files as your computer can go belly up if you drop a clanger (although a reinstall from dos would porb fix any damage to you O/S. Happy typing!
NB. apologies to all you peeps, for whom this stuff is self explanatory, not being patronising, just trying to help the peeps who don't know this drivvel.

Good luck.

Andy.
