How do you set up a server to play half life
team fortress clasic on and how do you connect to it thereafter.
Advice on this matter and any information you could give me would be very much apreciated.

ok you have to decide firstly if you want a listen or dedicated server.
a listen server is one that you play the game on as well as being the server. a dedicated server is one that you cant play on, it only hosts the game. a dedicated server is better, however it has an obvious problem http://www.wireplay.co.uk/ubb/smile.gif
ok, if its for a lan, then you need to have set up static ip's for your network card. do this by going into control panel -> network then in the window, somewhere on the list you'll see Tcp/ip -> (your network card name) click this, then properties. now change the ip address in the next window to 192.168.0.1 and the subnet mask to 255.255.255.0 ok it all then restart. when it restarts.
if you want to host a dedicated server go to yer half life dir then double click hlds.exe (i think) and it'll set it up. i havent used this personally, but there should be a command there to change the mod to tfc. (try the command "gamedir tfc"). if you want a listen server, load up half life as usual, activate the tfc mod (thru the main menu) then go to multiplayer, lan, host, then select map/stuff and ok. it should load up.
to connect to this server, on your other pc just load up hl, multiplayer, join game, then the other server should come up in the window. select and join it.
however, if its for the net then unless you have a really speedy connection its not worth it..... (EXTREMELY high pings alert - 500+)
still, if you wanna go ahead with it.....
connect to the net/wp. click start -> run. enter winipcfg. you'll see a section called ip address. note the number down there. give this number to who you want to play with. now follow the instrucions on hosting a multiplayer game as above (from the section starting "if you want to host a dedicated server......" but this time, when you want somebody to connect to your server, they have to bring the console down, and type "connect xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx:xxxxx" (remember that ip address you wrote down in winipcfg? that number goes where the xxx's are... .'s and everthing
ok thats it
