Hello, i just got this modem today and installed it and i have discovered that every few minutes i get Lag spikes it only lasts for a second or two but its getting rather anoying. I have replaced my 33.6 modem which i had no problems with at all and i have tried everything i can think of to stop this lag attack i keep getting. i have tryed different ISP's as well from BT free, Local call rates and wireplay direct each with the same result. I have the latest drivers and that still hasent solved any thing. maby i need to configure it to get it to work but im at a loss on where to start.
I have well above the spec it needs to be able to run it so thats not a prblem.

Any help on solving this would be greatly appreciated i'm stuck and need help

Thanks

You know I have the exact same modem as that m8 cos I recommended it to you lol :)
I've not had any probs whatsoever with mine so I can only guess it's a faulty unit- punt it back to Dabs and get a replacement.

Init a win/software modem so its ok on thunders amd 450 but might you see a performance hit on a 233 ? you 33.6 although only a tenner when you got it from us was a full hardware implementation.

chuck it back get a full hardware modem the amount of strain you put on the 233 anyway ain't gonna help.

hey :)

yeah i know what the problem is now i phoned the Dabs tech help line and its a softwarer modem or something and my processer isnt strong enough to run it. thats why i am getting lag when anything major happens on the screen i have a p2 233 and it says it needs a 166mmx and what i got ovbiously isnt enough. So i am sending it back tommorw and getting a propper modem which isnt soft ware driven or what ever they call it.
Its a shame i thought it would have been ok,
but hey life stinks

Any suggestions on a 56K modem that i should buy cause i dont want the samething happing again

Cheers

Diamond Supraexpress 56e Pro cos that's what all the other hardcore gamers recommend m8

Even Slime will tell ya to get that one cos its what he uses- basically the external version so is all hardware

I got Express Vi wotsit, and it gives good pings (150-200), but it goes to about 500 when i even fire my gun! this does clam down though. i got an overclocked PII 361mhz, so im not sure about this software lark, but packet loss does finally calm down. Oh and i have been playing HL for 1 1/2 yrs so i am not a newbie. :(

Right from what i've ascertained there's 2 versions of the Diamond Supraexpress 56i Pro modem:

1. 56i Pro VCC
2. 56i Pro SST

As far as i'm aware the former is actually all hardware and the latter is a hardware/software hybrid- can you confirm this Slime?
