I'm probably wasting my time posting this as well.

What is the purpose of this forum? Is it considered a waste of the helpdesk's time to acknowlegde messages posted here, even if they dont have an immediate solution to the problem?

I'm usually a very calm collected sort, but ffs either do something properly or dont bother at all. Idiots like myself have stuck around over the past few weeks while the tech boys hopefully get things sorted out, spending more time trying to get a good connection than actually playing, and no response at all when we ask a question just adds to the frustration. Like you give a sh1t anyway.

Good point.

I will have a chat with the team at the labs and see if we can sort out a formal triage of the questions raised in this forum - so you always get a response, even its 'dunno'.

At present it seems a bit adhoc between help desk people and labs people (I do my best, but it's in my spare time).

This week is going to be a bit bonkers, so I doubt we'll get anything in place for a little while.

Please check the thread where you posted your original message; you'll find that it's received a response.

Thanks for the responses. I'm surprised this forum isn't regularly checked by the helpdesk lads as part of the daily routine (which is what I had assumed, and why I was getting so annoyed that no-one had replied), rather than in your spare time.

I assume it's because the helpdesk is stretched to the limit with phone calls, but then the wireplay suit-wearing types need to sort out extra staff if that's the case. In theory this forum should speed things up, if more ppl check here before phoning the desk, that should cut down on the volume of calls. (Though maybe at 50p/min, thats just what those suit-wearing ppl dont want http://www.wireplay.co.uk/ubb/smile.gif )

Anyway, I appreciate the responses to this and the half-life connection problems thread.

Things are certainly better on this forum, at first there were no replies at all.

Keep it up!

Rusta, your assumption was correct -- this forum is checked on a daily basis by Helpdesk staff, although that doesn't necessarily mean that they post to it on a daily basis, too, since, for much of the time, customer postings consist simply of views, opinions, comments, etc., which don't need a response. If a posting asks a technical question specific to Wireplay, then we will respond to it wherever possible, even if it's only to say that we don't have an immediate fix for the fault in question.

yes he is sure http://www.wireplay.co.uk/ubb/wink.gif

this help desk forum is alot more helpful than you think. borg and me help out quite alot of people.

its just that your particular problem didnt get an immediate response from wp, so its all crap.

i for one dont see the point in wasting valuable time posting "dunno" to peoples posts, where the time could be spent actually doing something about the problem.

HalfLife Clan servers have been down for 3 days and no-one FROM WP has replied to our posts.

Hence "U sure"

The story so far with the Half-life clan server’s.

There was a server outage on Wednesday evening which was not rectified until Thursday morning.

On Friday we started upgrading the server code on the half life clan servers to remove a bug in half life sever code that allowed people to cheat. This was completed on Friday at some point during the weekend the clan servers went down. The actual NT boxes that the half-life servers run on did not crash so the automatic alarm system did not kick in informing us that the clan servers had problem. What actually happened was that the virtual servers running on the NT box went down, the automatic restart process for the clan servers did not kick in due to a script problem on the NT box.

The engineers managed to rectify the problems and restart the servers on early Sunday evening.

There are plans to set up a status page which will give up to date information on all parts of the Wireplay system but this is still in the development stage.

The primary support the helpdesk gives is via telephone, the weekends are one of our busiest times and callers on the telephone take priority over the MSG board.

After checking with the people on duty on Friday/Saturday evening we received reports that a few users were having difficulty getting into half-life. There are currently 20 half life severs on wireplay and we receive several dozen calls every evening from user’s who can’t get Half life 99.9% of those are due to mis configuration problems.
