View Full Version : modem socket
my modem goes 3 metres into the other room, and into the socket. it is next to electrical cable and a network cable. Could this distnace (coupled with the wires) cause slower d/l rates and higher pings?
Electrical interference is never a good thing for modems and telephone lines, but the only way to tell if it affects you is to route the cables another way and see.
Sorry there's no astounding answer to this one....just trial and error.

BTW - Norweb were looking at piping data across their electric power cable network (so every plug in your house became a socket capable of taking data). An excellant idea....but they also had huge problems with street lighting which would cause electrical interefence with the overhead power cables carrying the data. Weird eh.
