----------FFS, I cannot believe how terminally RETARDED you are.

Let's have a look at some evidence:

ADSL is a total rip off for £40

Excuse me? Rip off? For FORTY pounds? A BIT more than a pound a day? Unlimited, unmetered, high bandwidth internet access and that's a ripoff? Get checked. You obviously haven't seen your fone bill.

I think that ADSL should be around the £20 mark so more people will join.

You DO realise that we are in the United Kingdom here, and not Canada/US where a gallon of petrol costs less than a pound. Everybody's trying to make a dollar, and that's their way of making it.

Loads of countries get internet access for free

List 'em. I'll bet you won't get much further than 3.

I will be making a web site slagging BT off

A supremely childish, pathetic and a sad way to get noticed.

brief reminder that cable modems are better than ADSL because it CAN get up to 52mbps

Give me a B, gimme a U, gimme an L, gimme an L, gimme an S... *snip*

What do you get? BULLSH1T!

Has it ever occured to you that your network card is limited to 10mb/s, (100mbps ones are not supported by any cable company) and that your very-much-so-non-existent 52mbps will get eaten up by a BIT more people than yourself. Like your whole neighbourhood. NTL's site states that they will provide 'at least 256kbps', and that's about as far as it goes. Sure, you MAY get a 'l33t' 1mbps at 4am on Monday. Now calculate the chances of that.

DIE BT....... DIE!!!!!!!!

Yup that guy is dumb.

Cable modems max is 28mbit at the moment. But no cable company will even use that, they will do waht NTL does and limit the bandwidth you can use, 512kbps in NTLs case.

I HATE BT

-----Awwww, now you're resorting to bad language. It just shows that you can't express yourself in any other way, i.e. your intelligence level is quite limited.

Oops, did I drop down to your level?

Um, what I'm saying is, as long as it's in the vicinity of 40 pounds (which may be 50, 60 or 80), you'll pay. Otherwise, you're stuck with your sweet telefone.

Awww.

What PP has said is spot on, for nice n fast (350kbps i think) unmetered, 24/7 internet access I think anything under £60 is cheap. It will still save me a huge phonebill and in my opinion for the access speed and the fact I wont be online thinking "oh **** my dad will go ape**** when he sees the bill" and not enjoying myself will be worth the money, a damned site more sensible than internet highway which you still have to pay a phonebill or cable where if you live anywhere which is popular with cable users then your ****ed. With ADSL I can kiss good by to playing as a hpb and play whenever I feel like it, or allow my friend to play for free... hell I can even host games successfully for a few peeps or run my own server with the rest of my comps connected... it will be heaven

PP what you said is bang on mate!

Just for your information, only one counrty in the world has completly free Internet access and that is the USA. There are companies like Freeserve and X-Streme who are looking into offering a a subscription based freedial service. BT are soon going to be launching a 24/7 freedial service. The current story is that it will be launched at the same time as ADSL and will probibly replace the egisting BT Internet dial up.
As for the cost of ADSL, BT will most probibly be the cheapest ISP with support for ADSL, the only reason BT offered it to other companies is because Oftel told them they had to. The DSL line is most definetly the future of internet access, they are already triling a new DSL line in the states that is capable of 1/2 a gig a sec transfers. You do have to remember though, that you will not get the full bandwith of your line to the internet for a good few years, only to ur ISP's servers for now. ADSL is also the cheaper option, if you think about it. Both ADSL and Cable modems offer the service for £40 a month, ADSL gives you a 512k connection and Cable gives you just over 300k, if i remember correctly. Another thing to remember is that NTL now own C&W's network and in a few months will be buying out the last cable company making it the only major company in the country. This will mean that BT and NTL will go in to fierce competition and we could well se prices drop of free ADSL / Cable modem offers coming in to effect arround Christmas. Which ever way it works out, we will not loose out.
