Q: That's very cheap, a 2Mbs line normally costs ten grand or more a year?
A: Note the restriction on IP address which makes it no use for many business applications.

DIRECT QUOTE FROM BT's SITE !!!

So, they'll have to make the monthly charge around £40 pounds, or otherwise peeps will use another company's ASDL !!
BECAUSE - Oftel forced BT to allow other companies to provide ADSL using BT's lines!!
HAHAHA!!!

Er ADSL will always come from BT!!! They are the only company in this country with the infrastructure to cope with the demands ADSL make...

What I believe you are refering to is not actually BT Telephony but BT ISP...

An ISP buys ADSL lines from BT and then rents them to the home user.

The ISP may charge you, the home user £40 for ITS ADSL...but BT will make £30 from the deal anyway so it will ALWAYS make money.

Ok, i think what alot of you are missing is that when ADSL is in widespread use WP are obviously going to restrict the maximum speed that anyone can connect to the service at. Can you imagine 1000 users all connected to WP at the same time each with a 2MB connection. That would create a 2GIG/SEC load on the WP server which would just stop the service completly. Now, i would not be suprised at all if BTI charge about £30 a month for ADSL, as lala said the only reason BT ever game other companies access to ADSL is cos OFTEL told them that they had to.

i'm glad everyone on this post agrees. Good, good. BT will be about £40 a month and will be for home use, but will noe the less, probably be a disaster, just cos its faster than some service providers!

Maybe the comments about WP having to limit the connection speed to ADSL users could be on to something. Wouldn't it be a playing field leveller, cos I'm sure not all ADSL terminals will have the same performance, I mean look at the comparative speeds of v90 modems. I've had a Pace 56k(flashed to v90) which usually conned to WP direct at 24k, a 3com x2/v90 which conned at between 38k and 46k and now an unbadged usb modem which always conns at 45.333k.The line is the same, the'puters the same and the speed rating is the same but conn speeds can be wildly different. I know limiting speed to say 512k is not promoting the full use of ADSL, but it would flatten out equipment differences.

Except for the fact there's two ADSL modems which apparently have difference in ping rates...
