View Full Version : Cable or ADSL, a gamers choice?
Ok,
I know that the D-L speeds for ADSL are greatly higher than cable, but I figure when you get to 30-40k a sec, I can afford to be patient. All I want to know is which will be better for gaming?. I want the lowest ping and least packet loss. My street is full of pensioners so I can't really see the 10MBS line getting sucked up by loads of users on the same node.
Answers please...

cable rawks for games far better then adsl http://www.wireplay.co.uk/ubb/smile.gif
plus at this rate it bound to be cheaper too http://www.wireplay.co.uk/ubb/smile.gif
I may be ignorant but only 15% of the population use the Internet (sorry, if that's COMPLETELY wrong... less sorry if it's close http://www.wireplay.co.uk/ubb/smile.gif ). So surely there'll be good speeds on CM's nigh everywhere, unless you live in Wireplay avenue or next door to Broo http://www.wireplay.co.uk/ubb/tongue.gif
ah well...

Hey! can some of you guys start talkin' money while your at it as I'd like to know more about the prices of both (I'm from Dundee in the East of Scotland, so I don't think CM's will be available here for a while, but then again I'm ineducated)ie, what you pay initially, what you pay monthly and wether or not you also have to pay anhourly rate (I heard CM's you only pay a monthly rate, whereas ADSL is like 1.50 Quid an hour!). Thanx!
Just now I can find myself lucky, normal wise as I've got a Diamond 56 (Pings as low as 100 that I know of on Half-Life on WP), but I'm very much interested in upgrading if it's justifiable (NIS and CHILLY were squabbling over a ping of 6, so I think it's very much justified!!).

I think you are all so illeducated it unbelieveable!!!
Cable modem provides a better download than ADSL!!!!
Cable modem has max of 10Mb download...
Both CM and ADSL have had the download limited by the provider - ie the ADSL basic package is 512Kb as is cable modem...
Prices
NTL provide Cable Modem for a flat rate fee of £40 per month... Initally you may have to pay about £200 for the 3com Network card, fitting, modem etc...
ADSL will be provided by the ISP of your choosing so the price is up to them... but expect it to be around £50 per month flat fee...
You obviously not aware of the full facts boyo..
ADSL ALSO HAD THE BANDWITH CAPPED TO 515Kb!!!! It is the same as cable modem
If you want to pay £200+ a month for a 2Mbit plus ADSL bandwidth go ahead...
But in the £40 margin bandwidths will only be 512Kb for both cable and ADSL
And I might just add that I work for on of BTs major telecomms supplier so i am in the know...
