Thought some of you might be interested in the following email sent out Freeserve customers today:

“The pricing and availability for our High Speed Access Trial have now been included on the Freeserve High Speed pages:
http://www.freeserve.net/highspeedtrial/ADSL.htm

The monthly charge is £59.99 (inc. VAT) with no connection fee. This is the trial pricing only, the launch pricing is likely to be different. There are no Internet call charges with High Speed Access, voice call charges still apply though.

We are also offering a limited number of free subscriptions to the trial service, for more details visit our High Speed pages”.

So we finally get a retail price for ADSL. What do you think? Too much or a reasonable price for high bandwidth, 24/7 internet access?

Hmmm £60 quid a month...it seems ok but maybe a bit too over lets face it there are 0000's of net users and x that by the £720 a year. Have to see what mbit transfer speeds there are......looks like we just need a bit more competition!

£60 is way over priced. £40 would be a more reasonable figure. And only if the transfer rates are good enough. Let's face it Freeserve aren't that good on Modem access.

Thanks for the replies guys.

I tend to agree the trial is overpriced. I was expecting £50 tops and had hoped for £40.

I'll probably hold out for cable access but even £60 a month would save me on my phone bill (not much though)!

In comparison with my last phone bill, I'd just break even. There'd only be the high speed advantage...

Mind you there are always those free places that they mention...

At the moment the trial is only available in London and Manchester but by April 2000 it will also cover Birmingham, London, Coventry, Edinburgh, Cardiff, Glasgow http://www.wireplay.co.uk/ubb/smile.gif, Newcastle, Leeds and Milton Keynes.

Those areas covered from December this year are listed at:

Hmm 512k a sec is a good speed but for ADSL its pretty shi*e. On the trials anyway they reckon 2mb xfer speeds d/load....

You just know they are going to add some more, you wouldnt trail it at £60 and then put the price down, well the fat cats wouldnt anyway, Arent BT bringing ADSL in March???? Freeserve April?(fully commercial)

Looks like I'll just stick to my normal line, until telewest put their Cable down here next week :-)
